What? No runway? I guess the river will do!
As we are all aware by now, US Airways flight 1549 made an emergency landing in the Hudson River just a few days ago. It was with great skill and courage that the pilot managed to land the jet safely in the Hudson and get everyone off the plane alive.
Now, late yesterday evening, salvage crews lifted the drenched Airbus A320 out of its chilly kiddy pool and onto some barges. It impresses me how quickly the government managed to get on top of that whole ordeal. Seriously, one would expect there to be much delaying, protocol problems, etc...
However, I wonder if there will be any lawsuits. I'm certain there will be, as we are Americans, and we love to sue the pants off everyone who may have slighted us. But who/what could they actually sue? The pilot, for saving them? The engine manufacturer for not building an engine that could stand up to bird strikes? The birds, for not watching where the hell they were going? It would definitely be a bad PR move on the part of the passengers to sue.
Who knows? Only time will tell, but this is one of the few times that I hope time decides to keep secrets.
Peace out.
